Trip Overview
Experience the otherworldly beauty of Iceland with AdventureWomen on a seven-day adventure through its dramatic landscape with volcanoes, geysers, hot springs, and lava fields.
Meet your Icelandic guide at the Reykjavík airport and gather for introductions with your fellow AdventureWomen travelers who are joining you on this blissful getaway, then head straight out to see Iceland in all her rugged glory! You are also accompanied by an AdventureWomen Ambassador, committed to helping make your experience a fun and personally rewarding adventure, and cheering you on as you reach beyond your comfort zone to take on new challenges in your own unique way!
Kick off your journey with a visit to the Reykjanes peninsula, where vast lava fields have produced otherworldly rock formations and a breathtaking coastline. Start your engines for an hour-long ATV ride across the rugged terrain of the volcanic peninsula and up the rocky mountain paths of Mt. Hagafell. Capture amazing photos at the summit, where panoramic views take in the famous Blue Lagoon and Mt. Fagradalsfjall. Travel by bus to Hafnarfjörður town, one of Iceland’s most important ports long before Reykjavík was even a village. Learn about the “hidden people,” the elves and dwarfs, who are so closely knit into Icelandic tradition and literature. Back in Reykjavík, enjoy a city sightseeing tour before visiting Mrs. Eirný, Iceland´s Queen of Cheese, who will tell you all there is to know about Icelandic cheese, the lovely skyr, and other local dairy delicacies. Of course, there will be lots of cheese to taste as well!
In Snæfellsjökull National Park, walk the bewitching landscape which includes a glacier-topped volcanic peak before boating around Breiðafjörður Bay, watching for puffins as they nest and swim. Explore the tunnels of Víðgelmir cave then continue to your next natural wonder, the Hraunfossar waterfall. Beautiful cascades of spring water flow down the huge Hallmundarhraun lava field and trickle in hundreds of tiny waterfalls down the edge of the dark and rugged lava field.
At Gullfoss waterfall, board a big super truck and drive through the rugged, Mars-like highland landscape of Iceland – this is an adventure of its own! Arrive at the glacier hut where you will learn how to operate your snowmobile and go over the safety procedures before you ride off into the wondrous glacier wonderland.
Saddle up and fall in love with Icelandic horses on a delightful trail ride from Sydra-Langhold farm, then slip into the thermal Secret Lagoon for a steamy soak, knowing that a sumptuous lobster feast awaits your return to Flúdir.
Your last full day begins with another opportunity to spend time with Icelandic horses at a lively horse show on Friðheimar Farm and ends with a festive farewell dinner, celebrating your fellow AdventureWomen companions who you have spent the last week with, trying new activities together. Before flying home, bring your camera in for a few beauty shots (think mud on your face!) and a dip in the famous Blue Lagoon. This outdoor spa is fed by underground thermal springs that produce milky-blue, mineral rich waters.
The breathtaking sights and experiences make this journey truly unforgettable from start to finish!
