What drew you to Egypt? The frescoes and pyramids? Carved stone and tombs? Your Egyptologist guide will explain myths, interpret hieroglyphs, and reveal facts about Egypt’s greatest feats at every stop on this adventure. You are also accompanied by an AdventureWomen Ambassador, committed to helping make your experience a fun and personally rewarding adventure, and cheering you on as your reach beyond your comfort zone to take one new challenges in your own unique way!
Witness the enduring genius of Egypt’s stone cutters, builders, and artisans with a visit to the Great Pyramids of Giza, the only present-day survivors of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, built over 4,500 years ago. No trip to Egypt is complete without a ride on a “ship of the desert,” so hop on a camel and ride across the sands of Giza to visit The Sphinx. The enigmatic Sphinx sits nearby the pyramids.
Next, take a short flight to Luxor where you board the boat you will call home for the next four nights as you cruise the Nile River. This allows for daily walks among the enormous temples of the East and West Bank, and includes an afternoon on a ‘felucca,’ a wooden Egyptian sailboat!
A special flight to the magnificent temples of Abu Simbel, UNESCO-protected site. Carved directly into the face of a cliff, Ramses II Temple is guarded by four enormous 65-foot figures of the pharaoh and depicts his most celebrated triumphs in battle. Later that afternoon, enjoy a shopping trip into the labyrinthine Khan El-Khalili Bazaar. Reputed to be the largest bazaar in the Middle East, it was originally founded as a watering stop for caravans in the 14th century.
Fly to Jordan to see the real 6th century village map mosaic and the first Christian church ever built. Jordan’s greatest marvel of engineering, art, and pure grit is fabled Petra, a city only accessed by a ‘siq’, a narrow gorge in a rock wall. Around this siq, stone artisans carved colossal faux columns, stairs, and false windows, while deep inside a rose-red city was built, including an ingenious complex of dams and water channels.
No Middle Eastern journey is complete without a trip out into the vast sand dunes, of course. The trip into Wadi Rum and Valley of the Moon is simply breathtaking. Spend a night in a comfortable desert camp to take full advantage of your time in Wadi Rum. On your last day, relax at a luxurious resort on the Dead Sea, enjoying the rare air and an amazing farewell dinner during which you’ll all reminisce about your greatest discoveries and make a toast to this rewarding adventure you took together.
For thousands of years, Egypt and Jordan have cast a spell upon all those who visit. Feel that same mystique as you travel with AdventureWomen to explore two of the world’s most amazing destinations.
