Q&A with Nancy S., Adventurer in Style

If you could be doing anything, anywhere right now, what and where would it be?

I’d be retired and off with the AdventureWomen travel group, discovering new places, learning about new cultures, and meeting new women.

What’s something that no one would guess about you?

I am 20 months shy of retiring!!!

When did you start traveling with AdventureWomen?

My first trip was October 2019, the year I turned 60!

Why did you choose AdventureWomen?

The group was recommended by a friend who knows I love to adventure in style, and I wanted the safety and friendship of female companions. Of course, having the word ADVENTURE in the name was very enticing! I found myself having few friends that love adventure/travel as much as I do.

How many trips have you been on?

My first solo trip was in 1978 to Germany, and I’ve done various forms of travel since then including many scuba diving trips (Honduras, Grand Cayman, Jamaica, Little Cayman, Belize), various motorcycle trips in the US, and last year I hiked 75 miles across the Swiss Alps.   After my son graduated from college, I ramped up my travel to include Canada, Amsterdam, Paris, Belgium, Italy, Ireland, and Scotland.

What was your favorite trip and why?

My most favorite trip was to Italy in 2018 for 17 days with a woman I went to high school with in Wisconsin, but we didn’t become friends until our 40th high school reunion. Trip of a lifetime with my travel twin! (And the friend who referred me to AdventureWomen.)

What’s one thing you’ve had to overcome in your life?

I found myself almost 20 years ago in a position where I had to detangle myself from unhealthy family relationships.  As a single mom, I needed to re-create the family life I always wanted, without any family support.  I did it.  I found that you can create any life you want if you have a plan and the drive to get there.

What’s the most important thing to you?

My 30-year-old son, Ethan. He is all that!

If you could describe AdventureWomen in ONE word, what would it be?
