Join AdventureWomen in late spring of 2021 to explore Cape Town and search for the Big Five while enjoying the best safari experiences South Africa has to offer.
Arrive in Cape Town and check in at your comfortable hotel. Meet the group of adventurous women you’ll spend the next 11 days with and find out why each of you is excited to explore the best of what South Africa has to offer. You’ll travel with your expert South African guide, who will be with you every step of the way as you explore the area around Cape Town and will teach you about wildlife behavior as you search for exciting animals on safari. You are also accompanied by an AdventureWomen Ambassador, committed to helping make your experience a fun and personally rewarding adventure, and cheering you on as you reach beyond your comfort zone to take on new challenges in your own unique way!
Start your adventures in a tandem kayak to observe African Penguins! Spend a few hours paddling the False Bay coast before watching penguins swim and play in a quaint cove. After savoring a freshly prepared lunch, explore the Cape of Good Hope section of Table Mountain National Park and climb to the famous Cape Point Lighthouse for a spectacular view. After a full day of exploration, set off to explore the restaurants that make Cape Town famous.
Head out of Cape Town for a full day in the winelands. Enjoy a leisurely exploration of historic towns, and visit local wineries, learning about the vineyards and grapes, the winemaking, and of course, tasting the delicious South African wines. Enjoy a gourmet lunch at one of the wineries before heading back to Cape Town. Your next day is spent exploring the West Coast, starting in Bloubergstrand for a classic view of Cape Town and Table Mountain from across Table Bay. Continue along the Atlantic coast to West Coast National Park, home to some 55,000 birds that migrate from northern climates to breed here. Spend some time in one of the bird hides, observing their behavior before heading back to Cape Town.
Immerse yourself in culture on your last full day in Cape Town. Walk through the historical heart of the Bo-Kaap and explore the local spice market where you will learn about the origins of the spices and how they are used in Cape Malay cuisine. Put your skills to the test and learn how to fold Cape Malay samosas! Spend the rest of your day exploring Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, which features 9,000 of the estimated 20,000 species of indigenous South African flora.
Set off the next morning by plane for your safari! Spend two nights at the luxurious Kirkman’s Kamp, high on a ridge in the world-famous Sabi Sand Game Reserve. Settle into your cottage and enjoy tea or a drink on the rolling lawn. The wildlife viewing is nothing less than breathtaking. Spend your days in Sabi Sands, which shares an unfenced border with Kruger National Park, searching for the Big Five; Sabi Sands is famous for leopards, so keep an eye out for these sleek, spotted felines. Get out on foot by day and in the vehicle by night for exceptional sightings, enjoying Pan-African menus for candlelight dinners.
Continue the safari rhythm when you head to Tanda Tula’s Rishile Camp for three nights, which will be exclusively for AdventureWomen on this trip. Stay in your elegant canvas tents with en suite bathrooms including indoor and outdoor showers and enjoy the swimming pool overlooking the Ntsiri River. You’ll rise early for sunrise game drives, return to camp for an elaborate breakfast, and have much of the day at camp to relax and enjoy the amenities. Head out again each evening for a late afternoon game drive, searching for lion, leopard, and antelope as you enjoy the sunset.
Toast the end of your trip over a spectacular farewell dinner, laughing with your new AdventureWomen friends and thinking about how you’ll miss the safari lifestyle and rhythm of living in the bush.
