Trip Overview
Experience the challenge and achievement of a lifetime as you summit Mount Kilimanjaro with AdventureWomen on this ultimate, remote, and upgraded ten-day Northern Circuit trek. On this transformational journey, (re)discover your power, persevere with like-minded women, and walk among some of Africa’s greatest wonders.
At 19,341’, flat-topped Uhuru Peak is truly the Roof of Africa. The trek is tough but you’re hiking with women who share your grit and drive, lifting each other up to ensure everyone reaches the top as one. Plus, a team of experienced porters and Wilderness First Responder guides, following rigorous safety protocols, takes care of every detail including setting up each camp and preparing nutritious meals, each better than the last! You are also accompanied by an AdventureWomen Ambassador, committed to helping make your experience a fun and personally rewarding adventure, and cheering you on as you reach beyond your comfort zone to take on new challenges in your own unique way!
AdventureWomen has upgraded this trek to be the ultimate way to reach the summit. This ten-day trek has a 98% summit success rate and gives you the maximum time to acclimatize to the altitude. Not only do you have the best Wilderness First Responder guides, but some of them will be women guides, who have been mentored by AdventureWomen to help advance their guiding career. You will have your own single tent, complete with a comfortable cot and foam mattress, and the dining tent is furnished with a heater, making mealtimes with your group’s cozy affairs. You will have the opportunity to rent top-of-the-line trekking gear so you don’t have to buy everything at home, and if you want, you can even hire a personal porter to trek by your side the whole way and carry your day pack, maximizing your chance of reaching the summit.
Tanzania
On your first day in Tanzania, arrive as strangers but quickly become friends with a stroll together across the lowlands to watch for giraffes and other wildlife. Rise the next morning for a final gear check and a chance to meet your amazing crew before driving through the rainforest to the trailhead for the Northern Circuit, the most remote route on the mountain. Here begins the “pole pole” (slowly slowly) trek up through the rainforest. The green canopy then gives way to heath and moorlands thick with heather and flora of otherworldly proportions. Camping among the heath, shed those boots, stretch your toes, and dream about the next day’s trek to Shira plateau, one of the highest plateaus on earth. It’s cloud-covered terrain of volcanic rock all the way. You’ve got this!
Uhuru Peak
You’ll hike to a higher elevation each day before descending a bit each evening, helping you acclimatize and prepare for the summit. Enjoy the serenity and quiet of the Northern Circuit, the route around the backside of the peak, affording you rarely-seen spectacular views across the border into Kenya. When you reach the base camp for your summit attempt, rest, drink deeply, and eat heartily because everyone sets out for the summit early in the morning. You’re pushing for Uhuru Peak!
With exuberant cheers and shouts, share your triumphant summit of Uhuru’s rocky crown with the victorious women who’ve hiked alongside you, challenging you to press on. Savor this moment of glory and gratitude. After your celebrations at 19,341’, descend into Crater Camp from the summit and cap your achievement with a hot meal and views of towering glaciers from your tent.
The next morning, begin your descent from the roof of Africa with your fellow Adventure Women, giddy with pride and excitement. After one more night in your trusty sleeping bags, say goodbye to your guides and crew, the special team who made your trek not only successful and safe but more fun than you imagined!
Since you’re in Tanzania, cap your epic Kili climb with an optional five-day safari across bio-diverse Tanzania, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, and the Serengeti. Explore the Ngorongoro Crater, home to 25,000 of Africa’s largest mammals. After a stop to view the Olduvai Gorge, camp in a nyumba (Swahili for ‘home’). From here, venture out at dawn to search for Serengeti wildlife, and if you book in advance, take a hot air balloon excursion for jaw-dropping 360º views of the Serengeti.
