Trip Overview

Signoras, andiamo! Join AdventureWomen to hike the Tre Cime loop, sleep in a remote mountain hut and walk through fields of alpine flowers as you get a taste of mountain life high in the Italian Dolomites!

After arriving in Venice, you head straight to the mountain village of Pesariis. Nestling in the heart of the Italian Dolomites, it is known as the “Town of the Clocks” and boasts a whopping population of 178. This evening, in an intimate and warm farmhouse setting, you get to know your travel companions while enjoying a beautiful organic dinner prepared for you by your host and her daughters.

Your adventures in the Dolomites begin with a private class on cooking regional specialties, using fruits and vegetables you’ve picked from your host’s organic garden! Afterward, you take a light hike up to ramble among the historic stone buildings of piccolo Stavoli di Orias. Your expert Italian guide will lead you and help you imagine life on the mountainside, far above the beautiful valleys below.

The next morning, lace up your boots for a full-day hike to the highest peak of the region: Mount Coglians (9,122’). On a clear day, you can experience a dramatic view spanning the Dolomites from the Adriatic Sea to Austria! Stop at the trailside Marinelli Hut for a fortifying lunch then descend to enjoy an unstructured late afternoon in Pesariis.

For a relaxing recovery day, visit an artisan who creates harpsichords made of fine local wood before sharing lunch with a local family in the tiny village of Vuezzis.

The next three days in Cortina d’Ampezzo crown your hiking adventure. First off is a day hike of the Tre Cime loop, taking you around the three most majestic peaks of the region for sweeping views. If you have the energy after your hike and dinner, visit the Helmut Üllrich Astronomical Observatory on Col Druscié, at an elevation of 6,000’. Search for planets using their powerful telescopes and enjoy an experience that has mesmerized humans for millennia: contemplating the cosmos under a night sky dense with twinkling stars. The next morning, pack your backpack with nothing but the essentials for one night. Then, start out early for a spectacular day of hiking, a class in via ferrata (a method of traversing exposed trails), and an overnight in the remote Sasso Piatto hut, only accessible on foot. On the descent the next morning, visit Malga Sasso Piatto, an artisanal mountain cheese farm. Spend the next two nights in Bolzano, a village with maximum charm and a car-free city center.

Take a day drive to Bolzano on your last full day to see the Cathedral and view the 5,000-year-old iceman, Ötzi, discovered nearby and on display! Now that you and your intrepid friends have hiked the heights, you’ll have a new perspective on his life and fate.

Return to the bustle of Venice for a guided tour and a farewell dinner punctuated with laughter along the city’s back canals. The mountain views, the villages, the fresh air, the people – everyone in your group may have different favorite moments but you can all agree that traveling through the Italian Dolomites was made all the better in the company of your new AdventureWomen friends.
