Trip Overview
Discover Iceland’s wild beauty, unique culture, and delicious cuisine on this active adventure in the land of “Fire and Ice” in Summer 2020! Learn how to pilot an ATV and a snowmobile, taste Icelandic delicacies, ride Icelandic horses, and discover what “relaxation” really means as you soak away your cares in natural Icelandic hot springs.
Much of Iceland’s dramatic landscapse is due to centuries of erupting volcanoes and shifting continental plates. You’ll begin your Iceland adventure tour on Reykjanes Peninsula where hot steam escapes from ancient lava fields and a Continental Divide erupts in front of you. After a delicious breakfast, return on ATVs for a fun ride over the peninsula’s mossy lava fields, then up to an overlook where (local lore reports) many sightings of elves have taken place!
Back in Reykjavik, you’ll tour the Old Harbor, sample some Icelandic cheeses, and visit a chocolate factory. In Snæfellsjökull National Park, you’ll walk among bewitching landscapes including a glacier-topped volcanic peak, and learn the story of female Viking and renowned traveler, Gudridur Thorbjarnadottir. Boating around the islands of Breiðafjörður Bay on a wildlife cruise, we’ll look for puffins, and then finish the day with some local microbrews and a dreamy soak in Krauma Spa.
Nothing says you’re Adventure Women like an invigorating ride on snowmobiles transporting you over the Langjökull Glacier and into a tunnel of blue ice, then driving a “notorious” mountain road to reach historic Thingvellir National Park and the heavenly mists of the mighty Gullfoss Waterfall. An hour and a half riding Icelandic horses is enough time to fall in love with them before driving to idyllic Gjáin, where glacier-fed waterfalls make a perfect backdrop for photographs! Women who’d like to ride more may skip the afternoon tour and drop their horses off at the Secret Lagoon where the rest of the group is enjoying their thermal soak after a vigorous day.
A gourmet lobster feast awaits your return to Flúdir. Spend more time with Icelandic Horses at Friðheimar Farm before ending your week with a festive farewell dinner and a celebration of your adventures together in incredible Iceland. Before flying out, don’t miss having a good soak in the famous Blue Lagoon, an outdoor spa of milky blue, mineral-rich waters.
Iceland’s natural wonders, history, culture, and cuisine will be the fodder for many memories and stories that will stay with you forever!
