Trip Overview

Explore Death Valley National Park with AdventureWomen! Hike to high peaks, walk the lowest point in the United States, visit ghost towns, explore canyons, and take in spectacular sunrises and sunsets all while enjoying comfortable hotels to round out each active and adventurous day.

Death Valley National Park is the hottest, driest, and lowest national park in the US, but the extremes offer striking contrast and spectacular scenery. As you start your adventure, you’ll get to know your hiking guide, who will help you discover this unusual national park. You are also accompanied by an AdventureWomen Ambassador, committed to helping make your experience a fun and personally rewarding adventure, and cheering you on as you reach beyond your comfort zone to take on new challenges in your own unique way!

Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge & Death Valley

Leaving Las Vegas, stop at Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge as you drive toward Death Valley. You’ll get to learn about the refuge’s life-sustaining springs, home to the world’s rarest fish, the devil’s hole pupfish. Take a stroll on the Crystal Springs boardwalk, admiring the strikingly blue water that bubbles out of the ground at 87 degrees. Explore a ghost town, which was founded, peaked in population, and was abandoned within 12 years. Round out your first day with a hike into the dunes to enjoy a peaceful Death Valley sunset and sit down to a welcome dinner with your fellow Adventure Women.

Continue learning about the geology of the area in the Titus Canyon narrows. Marvel at the rock stratifications formed over millions of years as you enjoy this four-mile hike. Explore the Ubehebe Crater and hike along the rim for more spectacular views. Be sure to keep your eyes open for seasonal wildflower displays as you travel through the park.

Wildrose Peak & Golden Canyon

The next day, set out for your biggest hiking challenge of the week, Wildrose Peak in the towering Panamint Range. Weather permitting, you’ll start your hike at about 7,000 feet and hike up to the summit of Wildrose Peak at 9,064′. Don’t worry – you’ll go slowly with your group, encouraging each other and enjoying the scenery along the way. The view at the top is nothing short of stunning. Get some rest because you’re up early the next morning to take in the sunrise from Zabriskie Point.

You will have the opportunity to meet with a female park ranger who will share her experience working in the park. She’s happy to answer any questions you may have, so don’t be shy!

Spend a day hiking in the Golden Canyon before kicking up your tired feet by the spring-fed pool at your hotel. Lace-up those boots one more time for a hike on Badwater Basin. This saltwater flat is the lowest place in North America and the Panamint Range provides a dramatic backdrop, rising over 11,000 feet off to your west.

Your week concludes with a spectacular farewell dinner to match a spectacular week. Wish each other a bon voyage, appreciating the camaraderie, the moxie, and the shared laughs that will be recounted and remembered often in the years to come.

Day 6

Depart Death Valley

On your way from Death Valley back to Las Vegas, stop at Death Valley Junction, the site of the famous Amargosa Opera House. Marta Becket stopped here while touring the west and in the span of a few hours decided to move from New York and take over the dilapidated theater to perform a one-woman show. Since she was never guaranteed an audience in such a remote location, she took several years to paint an eclectic group of spectators on the walls of the theater. Check out the award-winning documentary Amargosa to learn more about this unusual story.

Make a second stop at the China Ranch date farm to enjoy a picnic lunch and enjoy a date milkshake.

You’ll arrive in Las Vegas and be dropped off at the Hampton Inn Las Vegas Strip South about 3:00 pm.

Depart from Las Vegas, Nevada (LAS) after 6:00 pm or plan to extend your trip a day or two to continue exploring.
