Dive into Mexican culture and the easy Baja, Mexico, lifestyle with Day of the Dead festivities in October 2020. Get adventurous outdoors with surfing lessons and enjoy horseback riding, kayaking, and snorkeling with sea lions while “glamping” under the stars on the Sea of Cortez.
Just as Mexican families celebrate El Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) by warmly welcoming their ancestors, you’ll be invited in to celebrate this cultural tradition in Todos Santos where your seven-day Baja beach adventure unfolds. Once a sleepy Mexican town, today Todos Santos is a flourishing artists’ colony and cultural hub. What better place to start your week of outdoor fun on the Sea of Cortez?
After settling in at the gorgeous Los Colibris Casitas, get to know your fellow Adventure Women. In the evening, you’ll head out together to join Day of the Dead festivities in Todos Santos. Walk to a nearby graveyard to learn the deeper value of El Dia de los Muertos and join in the fun by getting your face painted like Catrina, the “lady of the dead” and the evening’s star. Your Day of the Dead celebrations culminate in the Catrina Contest where everyone competes for the best rendition of this iconic character and cultural symbol.
The next day, be bold and take to the gentle waves of the Sea of Cortez for a women-only surfing clinic under the guidance of the best local Baja surfing instructors. They’ll get you up on your board and give you tips about maneuvering into the gentle waves. You can DO this! You’ll feel triumphant as you catch that first curl and sail toward the beach, showing your fellow AdventureWomen that anyone can surf, at any age, even with zero experience! Later, experience the joy of horseback riding along a white-sand beach with unforgettable views of the Pacific Ocean on the western coast of Baja.
Feel relaxed after an early morning yoga class then head for Isla Espiritu Santo for three exquisite nights “glamping” (luxurious camping) on a private beach reserved just for AdventureWomen. Your exclusive Baja beach camp is just perfect for sunbathing, a bit of hiking, and trying your hand at stand-up paddleboarding or kayaking in nearby secluded lagoons. But without a doubt, this Baja island’s most unforgettable treasure is swimming and snorkeling with the local sea lions. Join them as they spin, spiral, twist, and twirl, creating their own underwater Baja ballet. Make sure someone in your group gets this on video because you’ll never want to forget this moment!
Throughout your Baja Day of the Dead adventure, you enjoy the freshest seacoast Mexican cuisine including fish tacos, tapas, burritos, ceviche, fresh salads, fruits, and breads, plus microbrews, mezcal, and of course, margaritas—in the land where they were born! As your week of Baja fun draws to a close at our farewell dinner, reflect on how easy it was to relax, enjoy shared activities, and really laugh as you and your travel companions learned to surf, snorkeled with sea lions and learned to love Baja’s charm, active lifestyle, and local color, together.
