Experience the awe and majesty of nature on this exciting eight-day adventure in 2020 bear viewing with Alaska brown bears on the Kenai Peninsula in South Central Alaska. In mid June, at the height of the “midnight sun,” photograph Alaska brown bears at home in the wild, go whale watching, hike over Alaskan glaciers, float down the Kenai River by raft and learn about marine life on an exciting wildlife cruise in Resurrection Bay.
Venture above the 49th parallel to America’s “Last Frontier” for 19 hours of sunlight and the best Alaska brown bear viewing you can find! Particularly adorable are those bear cubs seeing their first summer, frolicking in the grass and streams, while their mothers teach them survival skills. Hungry from their winter hibernation, brown bears are also busy fattening up on the rich fish, grass, nuts, and berries that burst forth in Alaska’s short summer season.
Meet your fellow Adventure Women in Anchorage then leave civilization behind as you venture by bush plane to remote Bear Camp on the shores of Lake Clark National Park just south of Denali. A bush plane flightseeing ride – itself a quintessential Alaskan adventure – offers spectacular views of unspoiled forests below and snowy Alaskan mountain peaks in the distance. Bear Camp features a non-intrusive, park-inspired design and features raised bear viewing platforms suspended over grasslands and shoreline where bears come to eat sedge plants, dig for clams, and play! At the end of each exciting day, enjoy healthy “only in Alaska” dinners and laughter around the campfire as you swap stories of the day in the twilight glow of a summer “nighttime” in this scenic part of Southcentral Alaska.
Experience more of Alaska with a visit to the Kenai Fjords National Park to hike Exit Glacier then join a wildlife cruise on Resurrection Bay to spot whales, dolphins, puffins, sea lions, and possibly a white mountain goat in the hills. Watch from the warmth of an interior cabin or ask a new friend to join you out on deck to photograph diverse marine life and birds all around you. As we visit nearby coves, you may just see (and hear!) the calving of a glacier into the sea and the crash of ice flows against the ship’s hull.
The next day, a scenic rafting trip down the turquoise Kenai River transports you through dense forests and along low shores littered with driftwood where moose, bears, beavers, and bald eagles thrive. A shoreside lunch gives you a chance to soak in the pristine wilderness scenery with your Alaska companions.
End your Alaskan journey with a visit to Homer, aptly nicknamed “The End of the Road.” Pass by early Russian churches and active volcanoes on your way to the famous boardwalk at Land’s End. Visit art galleries and museums, sample delicious seafood, and help your new friends find the perfect souvenir during this fun-filled day in one of Alaska’s most cherished locales. You’ll have one last chance for adventure with a morning kayaking trip or guided sport fishing expedition on Kachemak Bay before heading back to Anchorage and your journey home.
Filled with wonder and wilderness, you’ll never forget this awe-inspiring bear viewing and wildlife adventure into the heart of Alaska, the nation’s final frontier!
