Experience the awe and majesty of nature on this exciting eight-day bear viewing adventure in Alaska with whale watching, glacier hiking, float trips, and wildlife cruises through Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula in June 2019.
Leave civilization behind as you venture from Anchorage to Bear Camp, a remote area in Alaska on the shores of Lake Clark National Park. A bush plane ride – itself a quintessential Alaskan adventure – offers spectacular views of unspoiled forests below and snowy mountain peaks in the distance. You’ll bond with your travel companions over sightings of the majestic grizzlies living near the camp. Share stories and laugh together around the campfire in the twilight glow of a summer “nighttime” in this scenic part of South Central Alaska.
Head to Kenai Fjords National Park, a geological wonder formed by the gigantic glaciers of the Harding Ice Field. Hike to the face of the Exit Glacier, a magnificent remnant of our planet’s past. A wildlife cruise around Resurrection Bay offers chances to spot whales, dolphins, mountain goats, puffins, sea lions, and more. See everything while staying comfortable inside the cabin, or ask a new friend to brave the icy sea breezes on the observation deck with you. Visit a nearby glacier and witness it “calving” an ice floe into the sea.
A scenic float trip by raft down the Kenai River takes you past salmon spawning beds (a favorite spot for hungry bears and eagles). Keep your eyes peeled for elusive lynx and trumpeter swans in this cradle of the area’s animal life. A shoreside lunch gives you a chance to soak in the beauty of the scenery with the group.
End your journey aptly with a visit to Homer, nicknamed “The End of the Road.” Pass by early Russian churches and active volcanoes on your way to the famous boardwalk at Land’s End. Visit art galleries and museums, sample delicious seafood, and help your new friends find the perfect souvenir during this fun-filled day in one of Alaska’s most cherished locales. You’ll have one last chance to adventure with a morning kayaking trip or guided sport fishing expedition before heading back to Anchorage and your journey home.
Filled with wonder and wilderness, you’ll never forget this awe-inspiring bear viewing and wildlife adventure into the heart of Alaska, the nation’s final frontier!
