CITY SLICKERS: HORSEBACK RIDING ON A WORKING MONTANA CATTLE RANCH
The backdrop from the movie “The Horse Whisperer” dominates the panorama from this gorgeous family-owned and run ranch. The view is a sweeping collection of igneous peaks, 23 of which are over 10,000 feet. Before the 1870’s, elk, antelope, and buffalo roamed these grassy slopes, but the land seems little changed as its descendents work cattle along the same creek banks in the ever present shadow of the mountains. From cozy log cabin accommodations, we’ll ride the canyons and open country, work cattle, and savor the freedom and serenity of this expansive landscape. The riding possibilities are UNLIMITED: there are no trails, and these are real ranch horses (NOT nose-to-tail dude horses)! Our days spent riding are restful, uncomplicated, and time-warped. Price $2,695 ($600 deposit)  Moderate.

VIETNAM CULTURAL AND HUMANITARIAN ADVENTURE - WITH OPTIONAL CAMBODIA EXTENSION

From the tribal villages of Sapa in the North, to modern Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) in the South of Vietnam, this custom-designed, active, cultural, and humanitarian adventure to a land made famous by war will fascinate and humble you. Throughout our adventure, we will visit many NGOs (non-government organizations) to meet and talk with people who are working to ease the hardships of Vietnamese people in rural areas of the country. As a group, we will donate a water buffalo to a local farming family, so they will be better able to increase the yields in their rice fields. In the Mekong Delta we will donate a sampan to a farming family, so it will be easier for them to take their produce to market on the waterways. These small acts allow us an opportunity to give something back to the culture and the country we are visiting.

This adventure is a chance to journey into the soul of Vietnam, to absorb the Vietnamese culture, cuisine, the art of its craftspeople, and the history, religion and nature of the country. Local guides will accompany us throughout; our hotels are luxurious and well-located; and we’ll eat wonderful Vietnamese culinary delights in the best restaurants.

Today Vietnam is a country at peace. Her friendly people are part of a culturally rich, unique, and diverse civilization, in a natural setting that will overwhelm you with its sublime beauty. Price (Vietnam) $4,895. All-inclusive from Hanoi ($800 deposit). Price (Cambodia extension) $1,995 ($300 deposit) Moderate for both.
