The oldest adventure travel company for women over 30, AdventureWomen has been challenging women around the world with all sorts of thrills and adrenaline for more than 29 years. With 2011 right around the corner, NOW is the time to plan your great escape for 2011 and add one of our women’s-only adventures to YOUR bucket list!
Girlfriend getaways have been a trend that’s gotten a lot of attention in the travel world in recent years, and 2011 will be no exception with these emerging trends in women’s travel:
1. Learn something new or improve a skill
For women who want a bit more out of their vacation than just the usual “unplugged” holiday, some getaways offer women travelers the opportunity to step outside of their comfort zone and learn something totally new, or maybe just to brush up on a skill that’s a bit rusty. A good example: Learn the ins and outs of downhill skiing while basking in the stunning beauty of Montana’s wilderness with a Downhill Ski Clinic. From beginner to advanced skier, you will learn to ski or improve your skiing in a non-competitive atmosphere with top-notch instructors, luxury accommodations, and more.
2. Get fit and get active
Some women crave a relaxing getaway but don’t necessarily equate relaxation with total inactivity. Active and adventure travel offers women a more physical way to unwind, such as diving and snorkeling in the British Virgin Islands. You will spend almost a week in paradise on a luxury trimaran sailboat—the world’s largest—as your home base.
If the ocean isn’t your preferred dream destination, you can experience gourmet food, famous wines, and stunning scenery on an unforgettable hiking trip through Burgundy in France, a brand new trip offered in 2011.
3. Lend a hand while experiencing something exotic
It’s possible to use a vacation for “the greater good” without having to sacrifice creature comforts. AdventureWomen, Inc. is offering women travelers the chance to visit Kenya for a once in a lifetime luxury safari and humanitarian experience. In addition to unforgettable highlights like visiting the famous Masai Mara Game Reserve, having the quintessential luxury safari camp experience, and seeing the evidence of Jane Goodall’s work first-hand, travelers have the chance to participate hands-on in special philanthropic projects that support Kenya’s women and children.
4. Discover America’s greatest treasures
In the past year, there has been a lot of buzz about the National Parks. Yes, it is amazing to travel internationally, but having a classic American travel experience in one of the National Parks is coming back in style. Who knew such treasures could be found in our own back yard? Whether whitewater rafting down the Mighty Colorado through Canyonlands National Park,
or on our summer Big Sky & Yellowstone Hike, AdventureWomen, offers women travelers unique ways to experience America’s greatest treasures.

“What a fabulous trip!! I still can’t believe how fortunate I was to be able to experience Kenya with such a wonderful group of women. What fun we had and what an amazing experience to be able to see all of those animals in person. I find myself trying to communicate the experience to others and sometimes I just can’t find the words. I think Africa is a very special place and I know I will be going back someday. People told me this might happen… .” – 2010 Kenya Humanitarian and Wildlife Safari
“ The [walking] trip in the English Cotswolds and onward to the Devon Coast was sublime. I can’t praise it enough – not the least of the pleasures was not having to think about anything having to do with logistics. I have traveled much with husband and children … so the journey with [guides] Gillian and James was sheer bliss. My deepest thanks for running AdventureWomen and allowing me to have this heavenly week.”

WHY You Need a Vacation!
The Importance of Planning Your Next Vacation
There is relatively little research available that measures vacation effects. However if you have a trip planned, you’re likely already happier than usual!
A study published in the March 2010 issue of Applied Research in Quality of Life, looked at survey results from more than 1,500 people, almost 1,000 of whom had gone on vacations. The time off showed that workers were refreshed, but the effects were not long-lasting after returning to work. The study also showed, however, a marked increase in the self-reported happiness of vacationers in the weeks leading up to their trips.
So the implications are clear:
- Plan vacations well in advance, because it prolongs the anticipatory phase and increases total happiness.
Then how should you handle the dip in happiness upon returning to work?
- Start planning your next vacation right away!
So the moral of the story is: See AdventureWomen’s 2011 Trip Schedule and plan your next adventure vacation NOW!
