Trip Overview

Travel to Croatia in August 2019 for an active, adventure cruise and discover the secrets of the the Adriatic Sea on our own private boat. The calm flows of the Adriatic and ancient walled villages of Croatia are the perfect backdrop to explore the dramatic Croatian coastline. You’ll enjoy the peace and untouched beauty of Croatia’s many islands scattered across the sparkling sapphire waters of the Mediterranean.

Split is where our Croatia cruise tour begins. It is the second largest city in Croatia, and the largest city in Dalmatia. You will get to explore the city, visiting Diocletian’s Palace, Split’s Cathedral, the Peristyle of Diocletian’s Palace, and Split’s famous promenade called “riva.”

From Split, we board our private chartered motorsailer yacht, which will be your home and your base for exploring over the next several days. We cast off to sail towards Trogir, a harmonious stone town on a small island that is connected to the Croatian mainland and the Island of Ciovo by bridges. The old town of Trogir is under UNESCO protection, and is a treasure trove for lovers of art, Renaissance and Baroque buildings, and Romanesque churches. Join a Croatian chef to shop for fresh ingredients at the local market and enjoy a hands-on Croatian cooking class, feasting on regional specialties for lunch.

And onwards to Hvar! The island of Hvar is the queen of the Croatian Dalmatian islands. It has been famous since antiquity because of its important strategic and nautical position, the culture, natural monuments, and literature. Explore the island on foot and visit Hvar’s fortress, St. Stephen Cathedral, the Franciscan monastery, and spend some time on Hvar’s beautiful beaches.

The Croatian island of Vis is the farthest island of middle Dalmatia, famous for its clear sea and protected underwater world, rich in sunken ships and miraculous flora and fauna. It also has some of the best beaches in the country, and is known for its fresh seafood and local wines. While at Vis, visit Komiza, a small fisherman’s town about six miles from the town of Vis. Komiza will inspire you with its charm, rich cultural heritage, and its excellent food and wines.

Visit Croatia’s famous Blue Cave, where you can hop off our boat to swim and explore the cave on your own. The Blue Cave was formed by the waves of the sea: the sea water eroded the limestone rock which makes up the whole island of Bisevo. The cave itself is 78 feet long, 35 feet deep, and up to 49 feet high, while the entrance to it measures five feet high and eight feet wide.

The next island you visit is Korcula island, allegedly the birthplace of Marco Polo. It is located on a small headland, and features Venetian architecture, defensive walls, and attractive pantiled roofs evoking memories of Dubrovnik. Visit a local coral jewelry artist, Irena Katela, and enjoy a short presentation about how she crafts her jewelry from this vibrantly colored natural stone.

Sail towards the Croatian Island of Mljet, featured in Homer’s Odyssey and stretching over 100 square kilometers in size. After exploring Mljet by boat, we head to her shore for a three-hour biking excursion on the island. We’ll enjoy the rich flora and fauna of Mljet while we take in the stunning views.

While the island is considered to be one of the most beautiful of the Croatian islands, Mljet is one of Croatia’s islands “lost” on the sea, and cannot be reached easily on your own. Thanks to its thick pine forest, karstic caves, two picturesque lakes connected with the sea, gravelly and sandy beaches, and fishing areas abundant with fish and lobster, the west part of the island has been made a National Park. Croatia’s greenest island, Mljet features rich Mediterranean vegetation, a gentle sandy shoreline, and a wealth of underwater sea life.

Dubrovnik is where our Croatia cruise tour ends. Also know as the “Pearl of the Adriatic” on the Dalmatian Coast, Dubrovnik became an important Mediterranean sea power starting in the 13th century. Although severely damaged by an earthquake in 1667, the city managed to preserve its beautiful Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque churches, monasteries, palaces, and fountains.

This small group women’s cruise to Croatia’s islands is a unique opportunity to make lifelong friends, with the crystalline waters of the Mediterranean Adriatic, sure to make this European cruise experience truly unforgettable!
