YUNNAN, China — AdventureWomen, the oldest worldwide adventure travel company for active women over 30, now offers an epic 18-day adventure tour to both China and Tibet. The first stop on the tour is the province of Yunnan in China, home to the ancient city of Lijiang and China’s most picturesque, stunning scenery and ethnic peoples. Then, it’s off to Chengdu, China and the Giant Panda’s before flying on to Tibet for a week of exploring cultural treasures in this Buddhist capital.

For centuries, Lijiang served as the capital for the mountain kingdom of the indigenous Naxi people-their origin is a mystery, their language and way of life are unique, and there rulers are women!  Located on the Tibetan Plateau of China’s border with Tibet, Lijiang lies in an ever-changing mountainous panorama and a veil of snowy peaks, and visitors will stay in Lijiang’s UNESCO World Heritage “Old Town” and also visit Tiger Leaping Gorge, Black Dragon Pool, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, and Tibetan monasteries.

Before crossing into Tibet, travelers pay a visit to Chengdu, gateway to Tibet and the home of China’s Giant Panda Breeding Center. Then, guests arrive in Tibet to explore outstanding monasteries and the Tibetan Buddhist capital at the “top of the world” for seven days. Tibet is a vast and mysterious land, kept in isolation and with little communication with the Western world, and its mountain scenery, Buddhist culture, and long history, make visiting this kingdom unforgettable.

Trip Highlights

  • Explore Yunnan’s UNESCO World Heritage town of Lijiang, China’s “Shangri-La,” and well-known for its fascinating culture and ancient Naxi people.
  • Travel to Tiger Leaping Gorge on the Yangtze River to view one of the deepest and most spectacular gorges on Earth.
  • Participate in regional gourmet dinners and cultural performances, and stay in wonderful hotels.
  • Spend 7 days in Tibet, known for its exceptional culture, fascinating people, exotic architecture, and breathtaking landscapes.
  • Travel from Lhasa, Tibet to Xining, mainland China, on the newly-opened Qinghai-Tibet railway. An engineering feat that rises to 16,600 feet, it was built through some of the most difficult terrain on earth.
  • Visit the Giant Panda Breeding Center in Chengdu.

Dates: April 7th-24th 2008; $6,295 all-inclusive with international and all internal airfare from Los Angeles to China and Tibet ($800 deposit). For more information, please call 406-587-3883
